My husband has always provided quite well for us all. We have always had an abundance of everything that we need. Yet this time was different, I didn't want to just run in, grab the first outfit I saw, hope it fits, and run out! That is how I am used to do my shopping. Or I would get every ones hand me downs.
I LOVE FREE STUFF! That is why I like my company. But right now, I am working on doing more and doing better, I am working on being a good leader, wife and mother. I am trying to become the best me that God made me to be. One of the things I am focusing on right now is the state of my home. Keeping it tidy etc. Man could I go on and on about how everyone in my home is so messy, sloppy and lazy...
While reading a great book I have come to realize that I too am just as bad. I had to take a moment to pray, put my pride aside, maybe even get rid of a bit of it. I realized I can not make anyone change, so I have chosen to follow the KonMari method for only my own things. With that method, you only keep items that spark joy. I am starting with my clothing. I have made it through all the clothing (not what is in storage, I am not that ambitious). I have a very small amount of clothing that I kept.
So off to do my shopping! This may seem counterproductive, if I am trying to simplify and downsize. Yet when you consider that everything has to truly spark joy before you buy it, then it really is what I needed to do. The KonMari method is about surrounding yourself with only things that bring you joy, not just getting rid of the things that don't. So I set off to begin my capsule wardrobe. It took a few hours to do my shopping. I didn't know what size I was, what colors I liked, what looked good on me. I figured it out eventually, and had a lot of fun doing it! I settled on dresses. I love to wear dresses. I even picked up some tops, and cardigans to miss and match. I could literally wear these three dresses for over a week, in different ways.
So did a shopping trip clean my house? Make me a better leader? A better mother? Not directly. Yet I do see that there is value in the steps I took with my clothes. I recognized that I am not the perfect one in the house, that I need to create better habits with my things. I found a tidy spot in my home, just for me. Where I can diffuse my Joy oil, and see only things that make me happy. I made room for clothes that will bring Joy when I wear them. And I did the work to get new clothes, that will help me feel good about myself. All these things will put me in a better place, to be a Godly wife and mother, who has a smile on her face.
